Newham Swords Fencers results in Europe

Newham Swords fencers achieved some wonderful results in the recent internationals.  Amol Rattan came 38th in the Cadet competition in Pisa, while Ife Kubler finished in the L64 of her first international appearance in Paris.  While Kaloyan Danchev, representing Bulgaria reached the L64 of the European Cadet Championships.  Pride of place goes to Alex Savin who won the Paris Marathon, which is renowned as the strongest U15 competition in Europe if not the world.  This year there were 365 fencers from 23 countries and Alex became the first ever British winner of this event.

Newham Swords Achieve International Success!

Newham Swords started the year in fine style by taking three bronze medals at last weekend’s British Youth Championships, held at RAF Cosford in Wolverhampton.

In the Boys U16 Age Group, Amol Rattan took bronze after losing to the eventual winner, and number one seed, Alex Tofalides. In the Boys U18 Age Group, Don Isiko took bronze after losing to the eventual winner and GB international, Tom Hendry. In the Girls U14 Age Group, Ife Kubler lost on the last hit to eventual winner, Ayesha Fihosy, whom she beat in December to win the Newham National Junior Event. “This is a great start to the year”, remarked Newham Swords Manager, Linda Strachan, “and fantastic preparation for this month’s junior internationals”.

Alex Savin and Ife Kubler will now travel to Paris next weekend to compete for England in an U15 International, whilst Amol Rattan travels to Bratislava to compete for GB in an U17 International.

“It is great to see some of the Newham Swords fencers making it to England and GB standard after only two years of fencing”, said Head Club Coach, Pierre Harper. “This goes to show what can be achieved over a short space of time when young people have the potential and are prepared to work hard”
